The Crossroads Conference is an interdisciplinary conference focused on Romance Languages topics organized annually in February by the graduate students of the Department of Romance Languages. The conference brings together students from the University of Georgia and universities throughout the Southeastern United States.

The conference will be a three-day event, beginning on Thursday, February 21st with a film screening of Los Ojos del Camino (The Eyes of the Journey), a film that highlights the beautiful landscapes of Peru and the cultural significance of the Pachamama in the Andean world view. The dialogue of the movie is in Quechua, but there are English subtitles. The film viewing will be followed by a short discussion session led by current students of the Quechua program. The movie screening will be held in Gilbert Hall 118, 5:00pm-7:00pm in lieu of the colloquium series.

The conference will continue Friday, February 22th at 10:00am in Tate 143 with a workshop led by Dr. Chad Howe and Arielle Lewis entitled "Corpus resources at UGA: The view from Romance Languages." In the afternoon, there will be two sessions in Tate 142 and 143 followed by a Keynote Address by Dr. Miguel Martínez (University of Chicago) entitled "The Sunken City: Popular Culture in Colonial Manila" at 5:00pm in Tate 142. After the Keynote Address, everyone is invited to attend a social hour at Ted's Most Best in downtown Athens.

On Saturday, February 23rd, morning sessions will begin at 8:30am and continue until the Keynote Address at 12:00pm in Tate 141 by Dr. Antje Muntendam (Florida State University) entitled "Linguistic outcomes of Quechua-Spanish language contact: case studies from the prosodic domain." After the keynote address, there will be a lunch for organizers and presenters of the conference. Unfortunately, this lunch is not open to the public. After lunch, there will be a final session beginning at 2:30pm. For those who are interested, some of the conference organizers and presenters have committed to going for dinner and drinks at The Globe at 6:00pm on Saturday. More details about the conference, including presenters and titles, can be found here.

Financial support provided by the Department of Romance Languages, the Willson Center, LACSI, the UGA Graduate School, and the Linguistics Department.
