Please join the Linguistics department in congratulating Dr. Peggy Renwick, who was named the Graduate School Outstanding Mentor for 2023. The Outstanding Mentor award "encourages and rewards innovation and effectiveness" in advising students throughout their academic journey at UGA. Associate Dean Anne Shaffer comments that this award “reflects [Peggy’s] excellence in supporting graduate students’ research, scholarship, and professional development in myriad ways.” In their letter of support, recent alumni, Dr. Rachel Olsen and Dr. Joey Stanley, commented that Peggy “has significantly broadened [their] horizons as far as linguistic research and quantitative methodology and has served as an example of what careful, thoughtful, and innovative research can be,” noting also Peggy’s willingness to give comments on an early draft of an application “from the passenger seat in the middle of driving home to see family.” ‘Above and beyond the call of duty’ doesn’t really capture this level of dedication. Peggy will be recognized at the Graduate School luncheon during Honors Week set to be held on April 18. Congratulations, Peggy, on this well-deserved recognition!
