LING 3250

Morphology
Credit Hours:
3
This course will introduce you to the linguistic study of word structure and how this relates to other components of the grammar of a language (phonology, syntax, semantics). There are two main goals. The first is to acquaint you with some of the variety of morphological systems that are found in the languages of the world and to give you hands-on experience in analyzing morphological patterns in different languages. You will learn to understand and use basic morphological terminology and concepts, to organize linguistic data, and to apply these concepts to the analysis of these data.  The second goal is for you to gain an understanding of important theoretical issues connected with morphology and their implications for linguistic theory in a broader sense.
