Getting Here & Around Athens

Getting Here:

LCUGA6 will be held on UGA's campus in Athens, Georgia at the Miller Learning Center (MLC). The nearest airport is Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) in Atlanta, Georgia. Athens is about 80 miles east of Atlanta, and is serviced by the following transportation options:

1) Groome Transportation is a shuttle service which leaves directly from ATL airport. This is our recommended method for getting to Athens. You should make a reservation in advance via their website. They will drop you off (and pick you up) at the UGA Center for Continuing Education & Hotel (Georgia Center). Be sure to specify where you'd like to be dropped off when you make your reservation online, and have your hotel confirmation number handy.

2) Megabus is a bus service which is usually considerably cheaper; however, this option requires a brief ride on the Atlanta subway system (MARTA) to get from the airport to the Civic Center Station, where the bus will pick you up. The bus drops off at the Athens Multimodal Center, which is immediately north-east of the campus. It is a 1.5 miles walk from the Multimodal Center to the Georgia Center.

Getting Around Athens:

Athens is extremely walkable, and all conference locations are within a mile of one another (see map on the right). The Georgia Center is a pleasant 0.4 mile walk from the Zell B. Miller Learning Center (MLC) where all conference talks and plenary events will take place. The Georgia Center also has a free shuttle for any hotel guests; you can just ask about the shuttle service at the hotel front desk.

There are also free UGA buses to take you around town. Please see our UGA Bus Information page for suggested routes. Full routes and times are also available on the The UGA Transit Website. You can also download the free UGA app on your smartphone for convenient bus tracking!

City buses are available as well; however, these cost $1.75 per ride.

Uber & Lyft are also alive and well in Athens, and we would recommend these services over the local taxis (whose prices are not regulated).
